Diet and Fast Weight Loss – PCOS and Insulin Resistance [Forum]

I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I need some tips on what to eat to help me lose weight. I am not too good with calculating calories and neither am I good a looking at food by grams e.g. have 7gms of carbs with 8gms of protein.

I would like something simplistic, in easy to measure portions.

I also would like some positive motivation. On the web I find mostly depressing stories about women with pcos and insulin resistance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks xoxo

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Calories on Menus Don’t Cut Calorie Counts

Sun Sentinel

Uh, duh! Not sure that was the point of the calories-on-menus laws, enacted by many states and cities, including New York City and California.

Slapping calories on menus was intended to help people make healthier choices, not compel fast food chains to slim down their offerings.

So, it should be no surprise that even with calories printed on menus, many restaurant foods are still packed with calories, and salt.

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Food Journaling: Tips to Stick With It? [Forum]

Every diet or weight loss expert seems to recommend keeping food journals of everything you eat if you want to lose weight. I want to know how successful people are with this really. Is it honestly worth it all the time and energy? I can’t even keep my checkbook balanced and I definitely eat more times throughout the day than write checks. Also, it just seems really inconvenient to have to physically carry around a journal with you everywhere. I do know that there are certain diet programs like Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig that offer online tools to keep track of what you eat. An online tool seems like it would be easier than having to write it all down, but to use it you have to be on their meal plan, and I’m more interested in trying to lose weight on my own eating real foods.

I guess my question is if other people have had experience with keeping a food diary and what has worked for them to help them stick with it?

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – How Can I Help My Overweight Niece? [Forum]

Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice. My niece will be three in July. She is about 3 1/2 feet tall and weighs just over 50 pounds. She’s so big she wears 7-8 in girls clothes. She’s constantly running into things and tripping because she’s overweight.

Her pediatrician has recommended to my sister to stop giving her sugary or fattening foods because of her weight. When she eats she shovels food in her mouth and barely chews! I’m always afraid she’s going to choke! She gags on her food occassionally. She ALWAYS wants to eat. She will whine for long periods of time when she is told no.

How do I or should I talk to my sister about this. Diabetes and heart disease run on BOTH sides of our family. My niece’s father (my sisters’ boyfriend) is actually a diabetic. I worry about her health and her future. Could she have an “eating disorder” brought on by my sister and my mother always giving and comforting her with food?

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Instant Recess: Group Exercise to Improve Health

Washington Post: SHIRE

Imagine the scene: it’s 1:05 p.m., and you hear co-worker Stacey Thompson announcing, “Okay. It’s time!” Within seconds you find yourself gathered at the reception desk with a dozen of your co-workers, marching in place, in preparation to dance.

Sound strange?

Well, this is what employees of Summit Health Institute for Research and Education (SHIRE), a nonprofit organization which fights obesity, have been up to. They are among the first to embrace “Instant Recess”, a push to establish 10-minute daily exercise breaks in all workplaces.

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Two Thousand Calories in a Single Drink

Any savvy dieter knows that calories in liquid form can easily clock up.

But, this is a shocking statistic: America’s unhealthiest drink contains a whopping 2,010 calories. That’s an average woman’s entire daily intake.

The drink in question, the Cold Stone PB&C (peanut butter and chocolate), has the dubious distinction of being crowned “Worst Beverage in America” in Men’s Health “20 Worst Drinks in America 2010″.

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Marketing for Diet Supplements Often Deceptive

Canary Papers

Walk into a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and you’ll see row after row of super pills in brightly colored bottles claiming to eradicate all the world’s ills, from blindness to athlete’s foot!

So then, why are we spending billions on medical cures for cancer and obesity? We already have all the magic pills we need. Yeah right.

That’s why the U.S. government is looking to crackdown on deceptive marketing practices for herbal and dietary supplements.

Diet and Fast Weight Loss – Mexico Banning Junk Food in Schools

Flickr: supa_pedro

Come on United States, Mexico is putting you to shame.

In one sweeping motion — though the rules are not yet approved — Mexico has banned junk food, from all of its 220,000 public and private elementary and middle schools.

With 4.5 million children between 5 and 11 overweight, and 26 percent of their youth population battling weight issues, President Felipe Calderon, kicked off a nationwide anti-obesity campaign earlier this year, saying,
