Diet and Fast Weight Loss – [SharePost] Is Gary Taubes Onto Something?

I just watched Gary Taubes’ Good Calories, Bad Calories lecture in Berkeley, and he seems so convinced and convincing about what he believes.

So, is there a flaw in his argument? And if “yes” what is it?

I’ve been on Weight Watchers in the past, and I know it works. But they preach the complete opposite of what Taubes quotes as scientifically proven.

So, how is it that you can lose weight while eating less fat, and as much pasta as you like, but on the other hand you can eat as much fat as you like, but no pasta – and this also works?

I’m just confused…

    The crux of the issue is that it isn’t as simple as calorie in=calories out like so many “experts” profess. If your levels of insulin are elevated (from an excess of carbohydrates) your body emits signals to store additional fat cells (or increase the size of your current fat cells).

    If you reduce the levels of insulin circulating throughout your body (through a controlled carb approach) your body can mobilize and utilize those stored fat cells while it no longer tries to store additional fat cells.

    The scientific kilo-calorie is a flawed unit of measurement for the energy we absorb from our food once it enters our body. It neglects to factor in the hormonal control element because food is incinerated in its entirity in a calorimiter, whereas it is digested in our body.
